True to Headwaters form, periodically and spontaneously, Sara teaches Irish set-dancing and contra-dancing on either day. Sometimes we practice dances that will be danced at our events; sometimes we do it for indoor group activities when it is raining. She used to teach Irish solo step-dancing (think Riverdance) and is hoping to again find a group of students interested in learning this difficult dance style. (Now that her children are older, it might actually be possible!) The dance lessons are group-taught with everyone learning
mostly the same steps. Any experience level is welcome. Come with enthusiam and lots of
Sara also currently gives lessons in fiddle (violin with style), guitar,
penny whistle, mandolin, and tenor banjo. She teaches basic technique, using
Irish, old-time, and folk music styles. Lessons are given on an individual basis
and progress at the student's desired pace. Students are not obligated to have
a lesson every week, but can have one any schoolweek they wish. Everyone is welcome. Just call Sara for info.
(If you wish to donate an instrument to the school please

Sara came to Headwaters in the fall of 2001 after she graduated
from Macalester College in St. Paul, MN. Raised on an organic Shiitake mushroom farm
less than an hour from Headwaters, she was delighted after college to find such a
community so close to home. After getting involved with the school, she married a
Headwaters "alumnus" and now hopes to continue being involved with the school until
both of her sons "graduate."
